Cei internship home

Welcome to Internships-USA.com

The only individually-researched internship site on the web with more than 2,800 organizations offering internships for college and law students. Never a “data-dump”, CEI Internships gathers our information directly from the employers listed.

The Books – Here you can learn about the types of internships listed in our 19 publications. Data contained in each book includes information on the position, a brief description of the company, application materials and deadlines, and what specific major (if any) each employer is looking for. A few of our publications do overlap

some employers have positions for undergraduate, as well as law students. You can see the employer preferences in the “Preferred Majors” section of each page, in every book.

Internships for Undergraduates – These resources are mainly from employers looking for students in the undergraduate level. If your school is one of our over 300 subscribers, you can browse any of these listings online. Also, printed copies of select books may be available in your Career Services department.

Internships for Law Students – These resources are mainly from employers looking for students at the 1L, 2L, or 3L level (post-undergrad, but pre-graduation from law school). In the same manner as the Undergraduates, you can browse any of these listings online. Also, printed copies of select books may be available in your Career Services department or Law Library.

If your school is not a subscriber, you can check out our ordering information or inquire about a subscription here .

If you have any questions along the way, let us know .

“I have searched numerous web sites for a software system to provide access to internships for students in any academic discipline. For the past three years, we have purchased the Internships Series Online from CEI; it has been extremely useful to students. They have found this “at our fingertips” resource to be highly effective and a great source of guidance, and provides the necessary information to identify internships.

This consistent resource is an invaluable tool that provides students 24/7 access. I would recommend this product to all University Career Centers.”

Employment rights and pay for interns gov uk

Employment rights and pay for interns

An intern’s rights depend on their employment status. If an intern is classed as a worker, then they’re normally due the National Minimum Wage.

Internships are sometimes called work placements or work experience. These terms have no legal status on their own. The rights they have depend on their employment status and whether they’re classed as:

If an intern does regular paid work for an employer, they may qualify as an employee and be eligible for employment rights.

Rights to the National Minimum Wage

An intern is entitled to the National Minimum Wage if they count as a worker .

Employers can’t avoid paying the National Minimum Wage if it’s due by:

  • saying or stating that it doesn’t apply
  • making a written agreement saying someone isn’t a worker or that they’re a volunteer

Promise of future work

An intern is classed as a worker and is due the National Minimum Wage if they’re promised a contract of future work.

When interns aren’t due the National Minimum Wage

Student internships

Students required to do an internship for less than 1 year as part of a UK-based further or higher education course aren’t entitled to the National Minimum Wage .

School work experience placements

Work experience students of compulsory school age, ie under 16, aren’t entitled to the minimum wage .

Voluntary workers

Workers aren’t entitled to the minimum wage if both of the following apply:

  • they’re working for a charity, voluntary organisation, associated fund raising body or a statutory body
  • they don’t get paid, except for limited benefits (eg reasonable travel or lunch expenses)

& Excelsior College Partnership

About our Partnership

Students can earn college credit by using Education Portal courses to help them prepare for the nationally recognized Excelsior College® Examinations (ECEs), a credit-by-examination program recognized by the American Council on Education. Students who earn credit by using ECEs may apply the credit earned toward an Excelsior degree program pathway or transfer the credit to more than 2,500 accredited institutions nationwide.

Step One: Browse Available Exams

Step Two: Create a MyExcelsior Account / Log in

The first step to registering for an exam is creating a MyExcelsior account. If you already have an account, you can log in here to register .

Why do you need to create a MyExcelsior Account?

In order for us to transcript exam grades on an official Excelsior College transcript, exam-takers need to have a record in our database. You will be asked to provide identifying information that will be used to create your record so that we can link your identity at the testing center to our database and properly record your grade.

It costs nothing to create the MyExcelsior account, and creating the account does not mean you are an Excelsior College student–it simply means that you are eligible to have your exams transcripted. Once the account is created, you will be prompted for your username and password every time you want to register for an exam or purchase a practice exam, and your identification at the testing center will be matched to the information you provide for the MyExcelsior account.
